About Us

JoooKooo Sports Academy (JOOOKOOO) envisions communities that are led by active and empowered youth. Our leadership team has lived diverse experiences and understands the cultural, and economic challenges that our participants encounter. We use basketball and other sports to teach and enforce skills that promote academic success among all youth, newcomers, people of Black and Caribbean descent, Indiginous and other communities,  in East Scarborough and Durham Region.

Our holistic approach takes into account the correlation between an active lifestyle and psychological health by incorporating nutritional, physical, and mental health interventions.  Realizing the economic circumstances of many of our athletes, we provide employment opportunities within our organization while facilitating opportunities that will enable them to secure future employment, thereby minimizing the financial barriers to pursuing higher education.

To date, we have employed over 35 students and have provided free/low cost programming to over 350 athletes. We aid in the development of key social-emotional and life skills, such as self-confidence, leadership, determination, self-awareness and perseverance.  As a not-for-profit sports organization, we embrace the knowledge and experience of our trained and certified coaches to equip students, ages 4-19, with the tools and resources needed to be successful in all stages of their lives.
